Voting: A Moral Choice With the North Carolina election primaries rapidly
approaching on May 2nd and the presidential election on November 4th we all
face some difficult decisions on who to vote for. As Catholics, there
are many moral issues we must consider in our choice. Do you vote for
the candidate that is pro-abortion but against the death penalty? Do
you vote for the candidate that supports gay marriage but doesn't support the
war in Iraq? These questions are answered in a "Voting Guide for
Serious Catholics" that is available in the Narthex in the back of the
church, provided by your Respect Life Committee.

Food
sources for our soup kitchen have been really short on canned vegetables,
a staple for soup making. Many of our neighbors only eat one meal a day - at
the soup kitchen. Mary Ann Pike, our Soup Kitchen Director, asks your assistance
in obtaining donations of cans of corn, peas, carrots, crushed tomatoes and
potatoes. Please call Tom Mathis at 704-541-0858 or drop off canned goods in
the church vestibule marked for the soup kitchen.
Crisis Assistance
Ministry, the community's safety net for those in poverty, greatly
appreciates the ongoing support and its long-standing partnership with St.
Ann's Catholic Church. With your help, the staff and volunteers at Crisis Assistance
Ministry provided 24,281 financial emergency payments to prevent eviction and
utility loss last year, a 16% increase from the previous year. In addition,
608,085 clothing, furniture, appliance and household items were distributed
to our neighbors in need. Park Road Baptist Church has become the first satellite
faith location for Crisis Assistance Ministry. The churches along Park Road
are helping by providing volunteers to assist in interviewing clients for emergency
financial assistance at this location. If you are looking for a meaningful
volunteer experience, then this is for you. If you would like to give back
to your neighbors in need in a meaningful and fun environment, please contact
Brenda Campbell at 704-371-3001, ext.114 or by email at bcampbell@crisisassistance.org.
